Here in America, we're lucky that family planning is not only a right, it's an encouraged ideal within society. However, in many developing countries, contraceptives and family planning methods are prohibited. Quite often, women become pregnant because of a lack of access to the appropriate information and resources.
We cannot afford to bring children into the world who, from birth, face great adversity because their parents didn't have options and assistance prior to pregnancy. Send a letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asking him to put efforts toward providing family planning support and education to families in developing nations.
Dear Secretary General Ban Ki-moon: We need to work harder to provide developing nations education about the value of family planning. Too often, children are born into unstable homes to parents who aren't prepared to handle the rigors of raising a child. Yet many of these parents lack access to the appropriate resources that would help them plan for the future. Someone presented with contraception options and information is more likely to make educated decisions based on her understanding of her choices and capabilities. As UN Secretary General, you have the power and responsibility to address the human rights concerns of third-world countries. Please work to educate these countries about the benefits of family planning and urge them to adopt strategies for keeping their families safe and informed. Thank you for your time. |
